The Em Dash Rights Declaration

A public statement — writing style alone is not proof of AI authorship.

01

Punctuation is not proof.

The use of an em dash, semicolon or any other punctuation mark does not establish AI authorship.

02

Style is not evidence.

Vocabulary, fluency, sentence structure, organisation and tone cannot, by themselves, establish AI authorship.

03

Humans should not have to write worse.

No person should feel compelled to weaken, simplify or deliberately degrade their writing to appear human.

04

Accusations require evidence.

AI authorship should not be alleged or penalised solely on the basis of stylistic characteristics.

05

Your voice belongs to you.

Every person has the right to their own written voice.
